Engine, 3.4L twin plug

Power is supplied with a 3.4L engine built by Jerry Woods Enterprise, designed to put out 100BHP per liter. This is a core example of having the highest quality design, engineering and build put into this racecar. Components are selected with years of successful racing performance, balancing reliability and power generation. Since extensively freshened by CS Motorsports in Milwaukee, the engine only has 15 hours of track time on it.

It is a twin plug setup, with Multi-ignition system complete with dual coils. The RSR style Mechanical Fuel Injection, (MFI), provides instantaneous response, never lagging, giving total confidence that power is there for the asking. Internal components include CP pistons, Carrillo rods, JWE valve train, GE80 cams, and solid tensioners. Chris and Austin at CS Motorsports have the details on their work for me with this power train.

Equal length headers round out the power package, along with Phase9 mufflers. These continue to meet the ever tightening sound level restrictions at the tracks. The mufflers are known for their free-flow power enhancement balanced with throaty sound abatement.

A most recent enhancement was installation of a new Sachs Power clutch. A complete unit was installed, including the throw-out bearing. The pressure plate had lost a rivet necessitating the replacement. As a result there is also now a spare friction plate that has 95% life left. Also took advantage of the access to the axles and CV joints. This project was so much essier with the drive train already out.

The CV joints were partially disassembled, carefully maintaining original placement of bearings/races, then cleaned and inspected. All the rubber boots were in excellent shape, without tears or rips. Hence it was not a surprise to find the bearings in as good condition as new. Used molylube grease in the rebuild, and replaced all suspect CV mounting bolts. Installed 4 new rubber boots, using the models that allow maximum wheel droop without tearing or shredding. Since that work the car has been back on the track and it is performing just great.

The oil circulation and condition is crucial to the dry sump boxer style engines. To optimize this element and enhance effective oil lubricity have had a custom oil resevoir installed. Among other functions it de-foams the oil to ensure that no cavitation occurs from the intense flow of oil and the g-forces experienced on track.

Included in this resevoir is a 120 volt electrical pre-heater to condition the oil before use. There is also a sight-tube on the side of the resevoir to easily observe the amount of oil in the tank. This tank's capacity is 10 quarts. The unit is located right/rear in the driver compartment for weight distribution, as well as ease of access.
